The Art of Giving Jewelry

Today, many men wear jewelry. That hasn't always been true, but it is now. Men wear rings, earrings, and necklaces today. So far I haven't noticed any brooches, but maybe I haven't been looking in the right places. Men have always struggled with the jewelry-giving questions of when and what to give, but today women are struggling with those same issues as they try to buy jewelry for the men in their lives on gift-giving occasions.

The advice to women who are faced with buying jewelry for a man is the same advice that applies to men buying jewelry for a woman. The very most important rule is: Know the jewelry preferences of the recipient.

Everybody does not like the same kind, size, or style of jewelry. This is true for both men as well as women. Jewelry preferences are personal, and jewelry is a very personal gift. The very best way to determine the jewelry preferences of any person is to take note of the jewelry that they wear. If they choose the jewelry, it MUST be what they like, right?

Note the style, shape, and size of earrings, bracelets, rings, necklaces, and (for women) brooches.

Take note of the precious metal that the recipient seems to prefer. If he or she always wears yellow gold, for example, don't purchase white gold, platinum, titanium, or silver jewelry for them.

Pay attention to the color of the stones that the recipient chooses for themselves or IF they ever wear jewelry with any kind of stones. Men mostly wear diamonds if they wear any stone while women often wear a variety of precious and semiprecious stones. Still women do have preferences as to stones.
Jewelry is personal. Knowing what the jewelry preferences of the recipient are means that you have cared enough to pay attention.
